Google Play announced a new policy regarding standard fee reductions for developers earning less than $1 million. The policy focuses on reducing the cost of subscription applications to 15 percent.
This provision takes effect January 1, 2022. "We've heard that customer churn has made it difficult for subscription businesses to benefit from the reduced rates. So we're simplifying things to make sure they can do it," said Sameer, VP of product management for Android and Google Play. Samat.
Additionally, Google Play will also reduce service fees for streaming music and on-demand ebooks that are now eligible for service fees as low as 10 percent.
"The new rates recognize the economics of the media content vertical industry and make Google Play work better for developers and the communities of artists, musicians and writers they represent," said Sameer.
On the other hand, Bumble CEO Whitney Wolfe Herd said the price changes made by Google Play would allow Bumble to better invest in its products.
"The price change they announced will allow us to better invest in our products and further empower users to connect online with confidence," said Whitney. Duolingo CEO Luis von Ahn also said that he is pleased to see that Google has found a policy that works for developers and platforms.
"We're excited to see Google continue to collaborate with the ecosystem to find the right model for developers and platforms."
"This reduced subscription fee will help Duolingo accelerate its mission of learning a universally available language," said Luis. (variety/ant/jpnn)
